Areas of Practice

Patrick Sweeney has over 25 years' experience representing governmental entities, small businesses and individuals in a variety of litigation and transactional settings. Pat is well known in the legal community for the aggressive representation he provides his clients, along with his ability to successfully resolve even the most difficult cases.

Pat is a lead attorney in our municipal law practice as well as a supervising prosecuting attorney. He regularly assists local governments with development projects and dispute resolution, specializing in:

  • Civil litigation
  • Settlement negotiations
  • Commercial land use
  • Contract negotiation and preparation
  • Criminal prosecution

Pat currently serves as the City Attorney for the City of Blaine and the prosecuting attorney for the City of Circle Pines. Throughout his career, Pat has provided representation to a number of governmental entities across the Twin Cities metro area.

Pat began his career with Krass & Monroe, where he served numerous municipal clients and honed his skills in public sector legal services. In 1991, he joined his family law firm - Sweeney, Murphy, and Sweeney - and became the managing partner in 1996. He joined Eckberg Lammers in April, 2016.

Pat is ranked by his peers as an “AV Attorney” through Martindale-Hubbell; a rating reflecting the highest level of professional excellence.

A native of St. Paul Minnesota, Pat earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting from St. John’s University and his Juris Doctor from William Mitchell College of Law.

He is an avid golfer, and enjoys other sports and outdoor activities. While living in Woodbury, he was active in youth sports coaching and administration. Today, Pat lives in Afton with his wife and daughters, where he looks forward to becoming involved in the River Valley community.
