Wendy Murphy

Areas of Practice

I serve and strengthen our municipalities by building lasting, collaborative relationships with law enforcement and the other justice partners in the community. I foster respectful communication between community members and criminal justice stakeholders.

Wendy Murphy is an attorney in our Municipal Law group. She focuses her practice on criminal prosecution for the municipalities that we serve.

Wendy has more than ten years of experience serving Minnesota municipalities. She has served as Assistant City Attorney for Rochester, MN and Assistant County Attorney for Washington County, and Rice County, where she prosecuted felony level offenses such as criminal sexual conduct, possession of child pornography, first and second degree assaults and predatory offender violations.

She also works closely with justice partners to establish efficient work processes, such as the Rice County Blueprint for Safety, an interagency response to domestic violence crimes and the Rice County CJCC.

Wendy works hard to establish and maintain good working relationships with city employees from Chief of Police to records staff. She values spending time interacting with police officers and victim advocates in addition to participating in city council meetings. Several times a year Wendy goes on “ride-alongs” with officers in several jurisdictions and often goes out to lunch with city staff.

Wendy is a graduate of the Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, MN. She lives in Apple Valley with her husband. Their four children are grown and out of the house. She loves seeing movies, taking hikes and playing Settlers of Catan with her kids. She is looking forward to being a first time grandparent this fall.
