UPDATE: US Department of Labor Hires Investigators

Recently, the United States Department of Labor announced that they are hiring 100 additional investigators to ensure employers are in compliance with federal wage and hour laws. Here are some things to consider:

  • Are your employees appropriately classified as exempt/non-exempt from overtime and minimum wage?
  • Are you paying overtime appropriately?
  • Are your independent contractors appropriately classified, or should they instead be employees?

Unfortunately, the questions can be complex and businesses frequently are getting the answers wrong. If you have not gone through a wage and hour audit to ensure you are paying workers appropriately, now is the time.
