Overview

Adrian Montez has over a decade of experience in municipal prosecution including extensive trial experience, making tough charging decisions, negotiating plea agreements, and appellate work. He works closely with community leaders to address difficult issues within his municipalities, from educating law enforcement and command staff on developments in the law, to working with victims and businesses to ensure the community is, and remains, whole. He brings a unique perspective to prosecution, having previously worked as a defense attorney on both state court cases and complex federal litigation. Understanding all perspectives and arguments in criminal cases is a key approach he takes to ensure equitable prosecution and achieving justice for his communities.

With a philosophical background, Adrian has a deep passion for finding harmony between the needs of the State and the needs of the community members. Adrian graduated from William Mitchell College of Law Summa Cum Laude near the top of his class. He received numerous awards including a CALI Award of Excellence, as well distinguished honors in Moot Court and Mock Trial. Adrian was an editor on the Mitchell Hamline Law Review Volume 42, Part 1, where he was published for his complex detailed analysis of Minnesota’s DWI laws. He was selected as a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers magazine in 2025 and was awarded a “Top 40 Under 40” designation by the Nation Trial Lawyers in 2023.

In his free time, Adrian enjoys golfing, skiing, playing guitar, camping, and spending time with his family.
